Accident analysis training courses

These training courses are aimed at interested persons who have basic knowledge in the field of accident analysis or recording. The main focus of the training is the transfer of practical experience at the accident site, in accident reconstruction or in handling electronic data. This makes the modules ideal for accident recording groups.

BASIC COURSE ACCIDENT RECONSTRUCTION

Part 1: Accident recording, special Aspects and expert activity

The objective of this part is to impart basic knowledge for theAccident recording. In addition, special aspects are dealt with, which are necessary for the further handling of the collected data. The first part concludes with the basics of the Expert activity.

Basics of traffic accident recording

The variety of traffic accidents can pose challenges even for experienced accident assessors and traffic policemen. The basis of every reliable accident analysis is a high-quality and complete accident record. This module is intended to deepen basic knowledge of accident investigation. The focus here is on recording accident-specific details at the scene of the accident. The participant is taught knowledge and skills in practical accident recording. The focus is on the observation of real accidents at the scene of the accident. Depending on the type of operation, this should train the participant to be able to document various accident constellations. The practical part is supplemented by the investigation of an example crash vehicle. In addition, the basics of sketching, trace science and vehicle damage documentation are taught in theoretical instructions.

Contents:

  • Basics of creating sketches
  • trace science
  • Photographic damage detection on the vehicle
  • Recording of relevant vehicle data
  • Documentation of traces at the accident site
  • Hand sketch creation at the accident site, CAD sketch creation
  • Data storage, preparation and administration

Basics of electronic vehicle data

Up to now, the analysis of traffic accidents has been mainly based on objective characteristics such as braking and skid marks, deformations, damages and injuries. For current or future vehicles, this consideration may no longer be sufficient. On the one hand, assistance systems reduce the number of visible tracks; on the other hand, electronic data is stored in the vehicle, which is essential for the analysis of an accident. In order to comprehensively secure these electronic traces, new approaches must be integrated into accident recording. With this module, the participants are best prepared for these new challenges through a detailed introduction to the basics of electronic vehicle data.

Contents:

  • Basics of Event Data Recorders and Vehicle Diagnostics
  • Display and availability of relevant parameters
  • Availability of data and readout devices used
  • Procedure for reading out with different devices
  • Practical implementation on a crash test vehicle

Accident reconstruction

Accident reconstruction usually follows the accident recording at the accident site. The objectives include clarification of the accident sequence, considerations of avoidability and the determination of precollisionary speeds, reactions and manoeuvres.

During the reconstruction, all available information (e.g. traces, deformations, statements of participants and witnesses, circumstances of the accident location, etc.) is brought together and systematically evaluated. Ideally, the accident sequence determined in the accident reconstruction corresponds to the actual course of the accident. In this module, the basic procedures for accident reconstruction are to be conveyed on the basis of real example accidents. Experienced accident reconstructors work together with the participants on the reconstruction by means of PC crash.

Contents:

  • Teaching the basics of accident reconstruction
  • Reconstruction of at least one example accident using a PC crash
  • Discussion of the limits and tolerances of accident reconstruction
  • On request treatment of special topics / accident constellations
